A New Place to Make Music in Clearwater: What School of Rock Adds to Tampa Bay Life

One of the best ways to understand a community is to notice the places where families gather, learn, encourage one another, and make memories together. In Tampa Bay, that often means more than beaches and sunshine. It can also look like a child stepping onto a stage for the first time, a parent picking up an instrument again, or a group of students cheering each other through a song.

That is why the arrival of School of Rock Clearwater caught my attention.

According to Tiffany Razzano’s Patch article, “Former Tampa TV Executive Opens School Of Rock In Clearwater,” the new school at 1530 McMullen Booth Road is bringing music instruction, live performance experience, and another family-centered gathering place to the Clearwater area.

As someone who grew up in Land O’ Lakes, is a Florida native, and now lives in Brooksville, I enjoy sharing the places, people, and experiences that make the Tampa Bay and Nature Coast areas feel like home. School of Rock Clearwater is a wonderful example of how a local business can add personality and connection to the everyday Florida lifestyle.

From Television Leadership to Music Education

School of Rock Clearwater is owned by husband-and-wife team Jayme Neto and Marina Coelho.

Neto spent more than 23 years in broadcast television, including serving as general manager of a Tampa-area Telemundo station. His career took him through several television markets, but music remained a consistent part of his life.

Originally from Brazil, Neto studied guitar at a conservatory there. He began college as a double major in music performance and business before ultimately pursuing business. His education later included a certificate in music business and technology from Berklee College of Music and a master’s degree in entertainment business from Full Sail University.

That background makes his move into music education feel less like a complete change of direction and more like a return to an important part of himself.

The inspiration for the Clearwater location was also personal. Neto and Coelho’s children attended School of Rock in St. Petersburg. Watching the program help their children grow musically and personally encouraged the couple to bring a similar experience to more families in the Clearwater area.

The result is a school shaped by both professional experience and family connection.

Why This School Is More Than Music Lessons

Traditional music lessons can be valuable, but they are often centered on practicing alone with an instructor. School of Rock takes a broader, performance-based approach.

Students learn individually, rehearse with a group, and work toward performing in front of a live audience. That structure can make music feel more connected to real life: and it gives students a reason to keep showing up, practicing, and improving.

Individual instruction

School of Rock Clearwater offers weekly individual instruction in:

  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Drums
  • Keyboards
  • Vocals

Individual lessons help students build the technical foundation they need. They can work on rhythm, timing, music theory, confidence, and the specific skills associated with their instrument or voice.

For a beginner, that might mean learning the basics and becoming comfortable holding an instrument. For a more experienced student, it could mean developing stronger stage skills or preparing for a particular style of music.

Learning to perform with a group

The group rehearsal component is where the School of Rock model really stands out.

Students rehearse in bands and work toward live performances at real venues. That means they are learning more than notes and chords. They are also learning how to listen to other musicians, follow a tempo, recover from mistakes, share the spotlight, and contribute to a team.

The school’s first student performance at Dunedin Brewery offered an early example of that real-world experience. For students, performing at an actual venue can turn months of practice into a memory they will talk about for years.

For families, it creates an opportunity to gather and cheer from the audience.

A place for adults, too

Although many students are children and teenagers, the adult program is an important part of the school’s story.

By the end of May, School of Rock Clearwater had enrolled 85 students, including nearly 20 adults. That is a good reminder that music education does not have an expiration date.

Some adults may be returning to an instrument they played years ago. Others may be starting for the first time, learning alongside a busy schedule. Group performance can also be a refreshing way to meet people and pursue a creative interest outside of work and family responsibilities.

The facility can accommodate approximately 325 to 350 students as it grows, giving the school room to become a larger part of the local arts and education community.

Why Clearwater Was the Right Fit

The school is located at 1530 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater, a location with access to established neighborhoods, nearby businesses, and the broader Tampa Bay area.

Clearwater also connects naturally to nearby Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Palm Harbor, Largo, and St. Petersburg. That makes the school relevant not only to families living close by, but also to residents who already travel throughout Pinellas County and Tampa Bay for work, school, entertainment, and weekend activities.

The area offers the kind of daily variety many families appreciate: parks, restaurants, beaches, trails, community events, arts venues, and local businesses that make errands and outings feel less routine.

The couple considered opening a location elsewhere but ultimately chose to stay in Tampa Bay, where they had already built roots. That local connection seems fitting for a school focused on creating community through shared experiences.

The Lifestyle Connection: What Families Look For Beyond the House

When people talk about relocating, the conversation often begins with bedrooms, bathrooms, yards, and commute times. Those details matter, of course. But the lifestyle surrounding a home matters, too.

Families may also want to know:

  • Are there activities for children and teenagers?
  • Are there arts, music, and education opportunities nearby?
  • Can adults find ways to connect with the community?
  • Are there restaurants, parks, trails, beaches, and entertainment within a comfortable drive?
  • Does the area offer experiences that fit the family’s interests?

Music schools, theaters, local restaurants, recreation programs, and community events all add texture to a place. They give residents more ways to spend time together and create routines outside the home.

Families in Land O’ Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Brooksville, Spring Hill, and Clearwater often weigh these daily conveniences and activities alongside the property itself. A home is important, but so is the life people build around it.

What This Means for Tampa Bay and North-of-Tampa Communities

A new local business does not automatically increase property values, and I would never make that claim. Real estate values are influenced by many factors, including location, condition, supply, demand, infrastructure, and market conditions.

What a business like School of Rock can do is add another layer to the community experience.

It creates a place for learning. It gives families an activity to look forward to. It brings students into local performance venues. It provides adults with a creative outlet. Over time, those connections can become part of how residents describe and experience their corner of Tampa Bay.

That matters in Clearwater, but the idea also resonates north of Tampa. In Land O’ Lakes, Brooksville, Spring Hill, and throughout Pasco County real estate and Hernando County real estate markets, lifestyle is part of the conversation homeowners have when deciding where they want to live.

As a real estate resource and local knowledge of both Land O’ Lakes and Brooksville, I believe the best way to understand a property is to understand what surrounds it. Sometimes that means a waterfront view or acreage. Sometimes it means nearby trails, restaurants, live music, or a program where a child discovers a new passion.
